Week 2 CFB Updated Metrics

I built this because I love college football more than any other sport, and I mean that. The stories, the history, the way a program can go from nothing to everything in a couple of years, none of that hits the same way in the pros. This sheet is my way of putting something real into that world instead of just consuming it.

At its core, this is built on SP+, the same advanced rating system ESPN and the serious analytics guys already trust, layered with a real, backtested Elo confidence system, historical matchups, real injury reports, coaching continuity, roster turnover, all of it pulled and checked by hand every single week, not just spit out by a model and left alone. Each matchup tab breaks down offense versus defense, special teams, who’s actually walking in healthy or banged up, and gives you a real, confidence grade instead of pretending every pick is a lock. If our own model disagrees with the market by a lot, we tell you that too, because that’s exactly the kind of thing you need to know before you lean either way.

Here’s the honest part, and I want to be straight about it. Right now, this early in the season, a lot of teams don’t have real, validated Elo ratings yet, since that takes actual games being played to build. Until then, some of what you’re seeing leans on preliminary numbers, capped on purpose so we’re not pretending to know more than we do. As more of the season plays out and that real 2026 Elo data fills in for every team, this gets sharper. Same sheet, same process, just backed by more real, played football instead of projection.

I went 11-6 over the last seven days doing this the honest way, checking the actual results, admitting when a number missed and figuring out why instead of just moving on. That’s the whole point. I’m not trying to sell you a system that’s always right. I’m trying to build one that’s always honest, and gets better every single week because of it.
